There are about 200,000 child miners. In gold mining children constitute 30-35 % of the total labour force

India

The main mica mining area is in Jharkhand/Bihar, two of the poorer Indian states, and almost all of it is illegal.

According to KidsRights (2014) almost 40 % of children aged 5 to 17 are estimated to be part of the labour force. In 2012, INTERPOL led a operation
to rescue child labourers and in this operation 387 children were found working in mines under
extreme conditions .

Out of Child Miners; 33 % were between the ages of 10 and 14, and nearly 6 % of children were between 5 and 9 years old.
